I am a massive fan of biometric options and 2-factor authentification for security (instead of passwords), but I will say that 2-factor authentication has a dark side.
It was never a massive problem, but I was locked out of a number of apps and accounts while on a 2 month backpacking trip recently because the 2FA option that they used is exclusively tied to SMS messages, and I was using local pre-paid SIM cards in each country I visited so I couldn’t get the messages. There was also no way for me to change the nature of the 2FA (e-mail verification, fingerprint scanner, or a phone-based app with an internet connection).
I really like 2FA, exceptionally user-friendly versions of it, but I think that biometrics probably represent the best combination of security and convenience.
