It only made some, if not most countries more conscious of their healthcare systems. More of a test of their capacities.
Proves that in most cases, there needs to be more investment in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and etc.
Not to mention incentives for healthcare professionals and more jobs/training/recruitment for these professions.
There also needs to be a permanent ramp up in PPE, so we do not get a shortage of those supplies like at the beginning.
It also implants the idea into us that we need to be more hygienic and prepared in case of another future pandemic...let alone this one.
Instead of stigmatizing those who wear masks, most of us now realize that it was/is to protect ourselves, and others from transmitting/receiving disease.
The coronavirus is a learning experience for where each country is at in terms of health care, however, it is unfortunately at the cost of many lives & many individual health outcomes. There's always something out there to kill you...just like the many pandemics out there in history, or the different heart diseases/cancer/etc we each may face in our lifetime. It's how we as the community can support science to address these issues in minimizing the damage caused and support evidence-based medicine to react to these situations.
