    Hard Drive Failure - Clicking

    Hello all,

I heard the clicking yesterday and immediately shut the PC off. Today I wanted to find out which HD it was and found it on the first try. I connected it back to the PC to copy important files, but it was gone already. Windows does not recognize it.

Anyone here does or knows someone who retrieves data from broken HDs?

HD is Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 (1500GB)

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It looks like you’re writing unsubstantiated nonsense. Would you like to turn on all caps?

The infamous click of death... Rare, but you might be able to recover something by cloning the sectors to another drive - but I doubt all will be recoverable.

Look into RAID 1 and see if that's something you'd be interested in to protect your files in the future.

Also, Seagate sucks. WD much better.

Thanks Cursed. How would I clone the sectors to another drive? Bios nor Windows do not see the drive.

This was my storage HD so I didn't do RAID1, but I agree that Seagate sucks. This is mt second one that failed. I'm replacing them with WD as they go.

Unfortunately on this drive I have something very important.

In my case i heard a clicking sound and my hard drive didn't read "Reboot and select a proper boot device..." but it worked fine in my friend's pc. So I open it and know it's because the Actuator Arm can't get to the Magnetic Plate to read. I tried changing the power supply and it worked

Is that a software or a service? Last time I used salvagedate.com, but they were very expensive. Looking for something more affordable.
