Going on my first Vacation EVER

Hey guys. I've never been on a vacation EVER. We moved to America when I was four years old, and as immigrants my parents where very hard working people who never took off days to relax. We never went on vacation, not even driving somewhere for a weekend. I think I've become complacent with not going anywhere and have had anxiety about leaving my home for quite a while.

My new job of a year has been paying me well, and as I live with my family I'm able to save up 90% of my pay if I'm focused (which I'm not). My job is shutting down for a week the end of this month and I've been feeling very down lately. I joke that I will kill myself if I don't get out of here soon, but there is always some truth in jokes.

I decided to pull the trigger. I'm going to Honolulu for 6 nights April 24-30. I'm going alone and I've already booked a combo hotel/flight with transportation from airport to hotel/back for a total of $1450.

For any of you who haven't been on vacation yet, or just recently gone on your first vacation, what has stopped you from going? I'm 25 now by the way.

Been on a few vacations during my life. Though funny enough I'm going to New York and then to Alabama in those days mentioned for a getaway. Hope we'll both have a good time.

I hope so. Weather is gonna be low 80s high 70s unfortunately. Bit of an overcast but not bad apparently.

I've never been outside of the U.S. but I'm taking a week hopefully to visit someone in Arizona in July. Flight costs are ridiculous though. It's only around a 3-4 hour flight and the cost is $500+ roundtrip which was some of the cheapest I could find.

I personally try to go on vacation at least once a year with friends or family to unwind. I'm looking forward to trying a solo vacation someday but I'm too anxious and self-conscious to go on a vacation alone. Plus, I have a horrible sense of direction

My parents apparently brought me to China and the UK when I was a toddler/small kid which I don't remember. When I was maybe 10, we went to Niagara Falls on an extended family trip with my cousins' families. Was a very "meh" trip. Next trip I took was summer after senior year of high school I think. My friends and I spontaneously decided to go to NYC. Was crowded AS FUCK but was an alright place. Summer after freshman year of college I went with my parents to LA (I remember mentioning this in General and someone from MPGH was like you're coming to LA?? Let's hang out. I was down but they never pulled through) and that was pretty nice other than the fact that my parents are dumbasses who basically need their children to be their babysitters. And my dad snores super fucking loud and I can't sleep (alternative would be to pay for another room, but ain't tryna do that if I'm vacationing with my family). After that I didn't travel for 6-7 years. Fall of 2022 I had a business trip and it was my first time going through an airport/flight on my own (though my coworkers were going to meet me at the gate). Wasn't sure what to expect so I was kind of nervous. Was a pretty awesome trip and I didn't have to pay a cent. A few weeks ago I had another business trip and this time I knew what to expect at the airport so that went smoothly. I'm now more confident when it comes to travel at least when it comes to dealing with the airport/flights. Now I just need to fly to a foreign country. I also can't say I've ever travelled completely on my own. Always family, friends, or coworkers involved. Anyways, hope you enjoy your trip. Check online to see what there is to see. And it'll get easier the more you do it.

Taking (well planned) vacations is worth every penny. You cannot get to the end goal if you don't live long/happy enough to get there. You need some resets every once in a while.
