best video card for hacks

You have no clue what you're talking about. 4x gtx480 is far better than just a single 5970. And it's not the newest, it's just the most powerful dual gpu from ATI atm (read: dual gpu).

And if you had a sucky card before it doesn't make this card better than anything others have now

5970 is only good @ big screens in my opinion tho.
i don't see a need in having 4x gtx480 or radeon 5970,
going to buy MSI Ati Radeon 5770 Twin FrozrII soon which is good also
(GPU 875 MB ) (memory 4.8Ghz)
tho m3 is definetly right that 5970 is worse than his .

Truth.

Imo the best card that is worth the money is something like the 5770 or 5850. Anything more is just for really demanding games or a bit more serious work (yes, that's why I have these cards - I even bought an extra quadro card for my other PC and I'm hoping to get access to a Tesla workstation soon).
