[SOLVED]is it possible to be demoted to level one with a hack?

my mate who has never hacked on black ops or any other steam game has randomly got himself demoted from level 48 7th prestige to rank 1 no prestige.

he was playing games as usual and then left and joined a new one with his rank randomly reset when he joined the game.

did he get hacked or something or is it a glitch?

any help please?

glitch. its happened to literaly a few hundred people over the last 5 or 6 days. even check the steam or cod forums.. flooded with this issuse.
activision says they cant do anything, but tell your friend to follow PCDev on twitter, he is trying to sort it out.
