If something costs ten dollars plus half the price, how much does the item cost?
Since someone got the answer, I'll explain it.
The answer is not 15.
The algebraic equation of this problem is 10 + .5x = x, x being the price.
Now let's plug in 15, shall we?
10 + 7.50 = 17.50
Does 17.50 = 15?
If you solve for x, you get 20. Plug 20 back into the problem and you get
10 + .5(20)
= 10 + 10 = 20
20 = 20
The mistake people made was that they thought $10 was the price of the game. The price is $10 + x/2, NOT $10.
