Ok, when I open PS and hit F5 (brush window) I can't select ANY brushes. =( wtf?

yeah, that could be a problem. also, do you have a windows theme manager or something, because when I used oen my photoshop wouldn't properly either.

if the keyshortcuts dont work you can just manually access it thru the buttons and windows menus

i never use key shortcuts except for maybe a few like X to swap colours or ctrl+shift+n for new layer or ctrl+j for duplicate layer, and usually ctrl+f to repeat last filter (i.e. clouds)
