To be honest, Rap/hip-hop etc will get phased out sooner supposed to later. It happens with EVERY type of music. Once the next one comes, everyone will start listening to that. Happened to classical, classic rock, hippie music (forget what it is called ), etc. I can promise everyone that it will keep happening. In 20 or less years (probably around that) there will be a new type of music. The new born children will begin listening to that, and rap will be nearly completely forgotten. History repeats, and when it comes to trends there is no stopping it.

No genre of music is ever forgotten. Except the extremley underground completely unheard of ones anyways. Popularity shifts from one genre to another, but no genre ever really dies. Fewer artists may make the music, but if you think that just because another genre gets popular all other ones become moot, you are another sad victim of the industry that tries to get people to believe that.

Well yea, no genre ever FULLY dies out, but some fade into a realm of almost non-existence. The only genre that has really stuck around is rock. in my opinion that is the only genre that has seriously stayed in tact. Others are still around, but no where near as popular as they once were.
