AIDS doesn't kill, it's the small viruses that kill after AIDS destroys your immune system. Also, people have around 7-15 months after HIV progresses to AIDS before they end up dying, on average.

a virus of this magnitude would completely destroy the immune system of a dog within 10 hours of infection, and the dog would die from disease in the next 14 hours or so.
so no, it isnt like aids, where the immune system slowly decays.
