There is for sure an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, seen two of my friend's iphone 4's jail broken. Just gotta find out which jailbreak they used.

Yes the untethered iOS 5 can be used with A4 chips I believe

You can go to iTunes, and repair: this would remove the jailbreak and Apple won't notice you ever did.

Yes that's the idea, you can basically reset it to factory settings.

Probably the only way you can mess up your iPod is if you pull out () the cable midway during the jailbreak.
