Considering that Half-Life 1 changed gaming industry standard and Half-Life 2 did the same as well as kept up as the number 1 FPS for longer than any other FPS, on top of which had a sound-scape that was unprecedented at the time and both games are the reason why we have such good FPS's nowadays as well, as well as the graphics were revolutionary, and to add to this had the only full-blown story-line that was setup in a typical story plot line to encapsulate the player and suck them into the game, I would say it's one of the best FPS's of all time.

Actually, every other avid gamer would say the same thing. The only dumbasses who don't are the little whiny brats that only care about CoD and shitty ass franchise games that don't change anything about the way the game is introduced and played and only focus's on sticking to the same routine of franchise to capitalist sales.

The game is paced out to have action, puzzle based strategies, and to keep you sucked into the storyline. The soundscape for the game is simply amazing, even for todays standards. Games nowadays only have background ambiance, not so much a soundscape more or less.

The game was also the first to make humanistic qualities in vox appearance as well as a scripted choreography in a chronological format that allowed the player to interact with the NPC's in a way that was never introduced before.

LET'S NOT FORGET how Valve created the HL engine to be COMPLETELY customizable mod-wise and independent game wise for individual (And groups) of developers allowing the creation of other amazing titles such as the Counter-Strike Series, which do I remind you received 10,000 hits on it's first week of release, and was only a beta of a mod at the time.


Everything about HL was revolutionary to the gaming industry, and without it I HIGHLY doubt we would have the quality games we have nowadays.
