It's exactly how evolution works. A random genetic mutation emerges, if that gene can help further survival of the individual long enough for him to pass on the genes, it will improve the survival rate of his offspring. Thus allowing the new population to grow and root out the old one since it is better at survival. Of course that's how it works in the natural world. In human society evolution won't work out the same way. We operate on the principle whether traits are desirable in society, not for survival. Either way, he's likely to pass his genes on. The question is whether it will be apparent in his offspring, and is not a recessive trait. This might very well be the beginning of a new path for human evolution. Not surprised in the least it emerged in China since they have the biggest genetic pool to work with.
