For all of you Vita owners, there's a new firmware update available for the device. If you like to stay on top of your game, you can go ahead and scoop up the update. However, if you want to retain access to homebrew, you want to stay where you are.

Yesterday, Sony released firmware 1.69 for the Vita which was found to patch the exploit in Super Collapse 3. In an uncanny move however, Sony has decided that this firmware will be optional, meaning that you won't be prompted to update nor will it be forced via the Content Manager Assistant application.

Being that it is optional, homebrew users do not have to worry about anything just yet. At the same time, those who have already updated or those who want to use homebrew but missed their chance(s), can look forward to the next possible release of VHBL.

If you have the itch to update, you can do so via the usual methods:

System Update
PS3 -> Vita
PC -> Vita
