There is a way to do it, I actually used my XBOX control on CA about a month ago, but really the thing that I hate when I used it was that the way you move around with the Computer is better then how you play with the control.

For Xbox or PS3 - Install the driver for the controller on your computer and everything should be fine.

Then just follow regular controller instructions I think.

Nope doesn't work that way, Combat Arms is made for Keyboard and Mouse only, there are only a few games compatible with XBOX controls, that is why for CA you use GamePad so you can set the controls for CA so it will function In-Game.

I used xpadder, but I must warn you. It's better to play with the keyboard and mouse.

Always coming evermore through the darkness i adore
    Never slowing never waning
    Always chasing always preying
Upon those who doth have power
    those whose minds are strong
    Never again shall it rest,
    for it has tasted fear
