    Well if you want to pay for it Kaspersky is the way to go (its the best there is) , NOD and Norton will make your machine slow as hell. Avast and AVG are good , but with time they break the OS . I am with Security Essential from Microsoft since it`s good enough and is made to be light and reliable. If you want a free one don`t get Kaspersky ,Nod or Norton pirated because they don't do half of the work they do. For me Kaspersky and Security Essentials are best in finding malware and don`t let any viruses.

    NOD32, hands down best.

    @Velocity

    Eset 5 or Nod32, both by ESET, both better than any other AV out there. Next in line is Kaspersky.

    Nod32 doesn't bog down your system unless you've got a terrible processor an a mere 2gb of RAM

    Yeah you see you don't know what specs the man has ,so just assuming he has a masterpiece as us is wrong. He could have 1 GB DDR1 for all we know. Also Kaspersky was announced to be the best AV ,but NOD is no less good (if you have the machine to work with it ,without bugging out from RAM loss , i.e. above 2 GB) . But these aren't to be pirated since they loose half their capabilities . Go for the Security Essential , its small ,and is optimized to work with almost no RAM ,gets every virus ,worm and etc. But for professional work , ESET and Kaspersky above all.
