Some huge news has just come out from GTA's series producer Leslie Benzies in an interview about the release of the tenth anniversary edition of GTA Vice City.
In the interview, a lot of "normal" questions were asked, such as "what would you have done differently", "what didn't you pick up on back then" and so on, but one question that is sure to raise a lot of hopes is a question about the possibility of Vice City's return in a future GTA game.
The answer to said question was short, but was answered in such a way that thousands more questions could be imagined.
It is always a possibility. There are a few references to the city in our current-gen GTAs so it is part of that HD universe, and it is certainly somewhere we would love to revisit. However Vice City, perhaps more than any other GTA game, was as much about the era as the setting. Miami in the 1980’s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period.
Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, and in that context reimagining Vice City would be very interesting.
Rockstar has actually envisioned this and is wanting to bring all three of the huge GTA cities together, giving the player the ability to fly between all three and visit each one again. He also confirms that Vice City exists in the HD universe (the same universe as GTA IV and GTA V), so there could be a chance that the city makes its way back. Another thing worth pointing out is that if they do decide to do this, what time period would the game be set in? All three of the older games (known as the lower definition universe) were set at different times, with Vice City set in 1986, San Andreas set in 1992 and GTA III set in 2001. In addition to this, what character would we play as, a new character or someone we've used before? Only time will tell!
