Notice how religion is going down and down, oh the inevitability before these religious people are looked as the counter culture of soceity.
I vote yes, that there IS a GOD, since I'm a Protestant.
It's true that institutionalized religion has been used for manipulating
the masses or squeezing out money in both the past (for example, the corrupt Estate system of the Ancien Regime!) and in the present, but I don't think one can so easily abhor religion due to that fact.
I have observed some troubling conflict within the church and between some
other Christian friends, however, we are all still imperfect humans.
There are some views that Jesus died so that we may have good and healthy lives, but many Christians don't believe in that. I once saw a few minutes of
a show expressing such a view, saying that Christians have the right to be
greater and such over non-believers and reign over them. I reject this as well.
There are many branches of Christianity, so it's hard to gift-wrap it under the
umbrella term "Christianity". Catholicism and Protestantism are very different, and there are other sects such as the Jehovah's Witnesses (which are considered by some to be heretics).
However, it seems as if it is too troublesome to argue for or against a religion or religions, and the term "religion" already arouses such controversy. I like to think along the lines of William James, whose opinion is that "our passional nature not only lawfully may, but must, decide ... between propositions, wherever it is a genuine option that cannot by its nature be decided on intellectual grounds...". Sometimes faith and some local evangelism will be enough for someone like me, but who knows what God has in store. "The world says to trust myself. Myself says to trust in Jesus".
Not going to force my view, though.
Also, I've heard of an interesting idea against evolution:
If Darwin believed in the survival of the fittest and
--assuming that humans have evolved from apes--
how did such a strong emotion as love come about?
"Love", at least in a shallow way, is quite common
in the pop music culture these days.
It's easy to tear up to torn romance.
In a natural world where some animal parents do not rear
their offspring with too much care,
or even eat their offspring,
how did this powerful emotion come about?
Just tossing an idea out,
sorry if anyone is offended.
: )
