Why even bother?
We all know that Microsoft is shutting down MSN/WLM very soon and it means that we won't be able to port any of our custom emoticons to another platform easily since there are no tools out there that can do that effectively. Using this tool means we can back them up and use them in future projects or other chat clients.
What can this do?
This tool can read all the emoticons from your computer depending on which account you select and recover the emoticon name and keyboard shortcut which are actually encrypted inside the ID2 files. This tools stores that information in an "emoticons.xml" file so that it is readable and understandable. Also, in order to decrypt these files, you need your Unique ID (formerly called PUID, Passport User Identification) which can be found on your "Outlook" account.
How do I find my Unique ID?
Read the instructions in the tool, it tells you how. I'll copy it here just in-case:
Note about your Unique ID:
Do not share or post your Unique ID online as it is sensitive information and it still used outside of Windows Live Messenger or MSN. Also, make sure that if you have multiple accounts on the computer that you use the correct Unique ID. Don't forget to press Enter after you've pasted the ID by the way.
Changes:
- Now stores image data in the XML rather than the file name for easy import into Invitey
