All CPU/RAM configurations are different. Instead of asking, Set up VMware and try it yourself. Start with 1 cow, Log in on, Do a round, If it's stable, clone it and log on 2 cows repeat the process until you start black screening or lagging to the point where your cows leave from being inactive while in the loading screen.

Personally, I follow the rule of 2Gb per cow and at minimum 2Gb (I like to leave 4Gb to prevent all lag) for your Host's O/S normal operating tasks. I find even dropping it to 1.5Gb per cow can lead to black screen's, Though I am running 8 cows or 8 cow's + a farmer. I have 24Gb in my farm computer atm, 8x2Gb for cows, 4Gb for my Farmer's VM (He need's if to keep lag at 0) and an extra 4Gb for my OS and auto programs.
