Study? I just started learning java a few weeks ago and it's honestly not that hard if you don't fall asleep in class. Most of it is applying common sense to stuff. I'd recommend commenting so you know what code is for what and to watch your formatting/indenting/etc. as tiny syntax errors become a pain if you miss them with long amounts of code.

Get a lynda account and watch the latest java video. it was a great refresher for me. from the basics all the way to exception handling, gui's, web, and mobile all using Eclipse. And its only a 2 hour class! (im going into my second year of java) im free most nights so if you dont understand something and you cant find it online, give me a shout.

You really don't need any advice, Java is pretty easy to pick up on.
Just make sure to keep taking notes on everything you're told, and ensuring you remember it.

I would recommend paying attention to changing and analyzing values in arrays as well as how to create classes\methods that make your code more efficient. These are the only things I had problems with well learning Java.

Java is easy to get the hang of, especially all the basics but it gets difficult once you become distracted

Just learn the syntax. Java is orientated for object oriented programing so you will have to learn inheritance and objects. You'll be golden!
