I was half kidding, but a lot of people don't understand how much this actually irritates me. That is not a toy, that is a gun. It does not matter whether it's loaded with bullets, bbs, paintballs, or nothing at all. If it looks like a gun, it is, on principle, always lethal, always loaded. That philosophy is the only surefire way to avoid an accidental/negligent discharge that might end up taking off the top of your head.

Exactly what I was taught, treat every gun as if it's loaded. It's a big pet peeve of mine as well when I see careless people with possession of firearms. It shines badly on responsible gun owners such as myself, and puts innocent people in danger.
