It's alright, not really for gaming though. Get HP. Make sure you don't get Dell (alienware is also Dell). Dell sucks.

4GB RAM is enough, 8GB is nice.
500GB HDD is all you need, if you don't collect movies (illegally or legally) on your PC.
i5 is probably enough, although I'd suggest an i7.
Needs a 2GB graphics card, preferably nVidia. Anything above GT600 will work well.
Audio doesn't matter a whole lot, unless you love your audio. I have integrated Beats audio (using a laptop), it's up to you really.
Stay away from touch screen computers. They wear out quicker and perform worse.

Worth the money, and yes Asus are ok except for some old screen problems which i think they have now fixed. I just bought a Toshiba P750-114...........
