    Question about PC case airflow

So my friend recently built his PC and he is completely nub when it comes to PC stuff etc. He bought an extra to put in his case (his case came with 3 included)

He told me he was going to use the 4th fan as an exhaust above the CPU cooler (the top arrow in the pic) while also having the rear fan as an exhaust. He has 2 front facing fans which is pulling air into the case.

I would've thought that if he put the top as an exhaust, the rear fan would be useless since hot air naturally rises.

What would be the best orientation for the fans to go? have the rear fan as an intake or put both the rear fan and extra fan as exhausts on top?

    Discussion?

(He has the same case as the one in the pic)

It might be useless depending on his CPU cooler. If his CPU cooler works fine and/or is too big- don't put one above the thing.

    ---

Not only that what fans are he getting- because if they suck, it doesn't matter where he puts them.

Personally his set-up sounds fine if the temperatures are okay in his room. If it doesn't work as great as he hopes, he can always move the stuff too.

Knowing him, he would've bought some Corsair AF fans. I'm gonna go to his place tomorrow and help out with some other stuff with it. I'll take a look then.

Case is good the way it is now, I have the exact same airflow and everything in my PC has never gone over 50C, and it's already hit around 100F where I'm at. Just make sure your friend has a cpu cooler follows the same path of the current air cooling or else it will be fucked up to where the cpu will be exhausting towards the inhale fans.

Cheers, dude. He has an AM3+ mobo and it only allows the CPU cooler fan to either face down towards the GPU or upwards facing the exhaust fans on top.

Hot air rising has nothing to do with it, the back chassis fan will expel just as much as as the top fan, it's physics. Effective cooling is all about airflow, and not just hot air expulsion. If the back fan is pulling more air into the case, then the CPU fan will have more air to expel.

I have a AM3+ mobo and have this after market cooler: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233082 should work fine.

I've been playing a lot of Fear Online and BF4 the past 2 days and I haven't closed my Core Temp since my PC was restarted(bout 4 days ago) and here are the current readings.. https://i.imgur.com/t7ZnNeq.png and here is the kind of gaming weather I'm dealing with.. https://i.imgur.com/nDdyfth.png

Just make sure you have him get a good after market cooler and don't forget to get him thermal paste so the idiot doesn't put it on without any, if you need a reccomendation for a nice CPU cooler(since this one is out of stock) feel free to ask me.

He's completed the build. He bought the CM Hyper 212 EVO which I recommended. And yea, he bought some thermal paste. I ran him through steps on what to do etc. and if he had questions, he just asked me.

Mines intake from the front and side panel display and exhaust from the rear and top. I choose not to have a fan on the bottom as it can disrupt airflow from the front.

Heres a picture of mine, A coolermaster haf 922, I think it preforms up to standards.

I haven't attached a fan to the side yet, but naturally the hot air is rising, but I have a 40mm fan pulling hot air out of the top, causing cold air to be sucked in from the side, back, and front.
