SNAFU, Naruto, Guilty Crown, SAO, and higurashi are the ones you really shouldn't recommend to newcomers because they lack inherent quality.

Other ones that are too complex or require too much watching are also not good to recommend for entry level. Like I would not recommend the Monogatari series for that distinct reason.

Then there are the ones like D.Gray Man, Soul Eater, and Hitman Reborn that start out ok but end horribly.
(same could be said of Naruto right now too).

Anything that doesn't have "Japanese culture" (if that even makes sense) feels entry level to me since when "normal" people watch those they get weirded out.
