A border does not make a signature. And most of my REAL graphics, not signatures do not use borders, so know what your talking about before you open your mouth.

And YOU sir, get the cockiness out of here. Your not even good with the program you use. This is amateur at best with GIMP. People who I have been in groups with have killed with GIMP. But, I am here to give you tips.
Lets start out with the brightness of the render.
You need to learn good lighting skills to help with depth, which you need to add into your signatures. I'm not going to go into detail about how to add good depth and lighting in this criticism, but I highly recommend you look up some good tutorials in depth and lighting.
Something thats good about your signature though is i can feel flow in it, especially the C4D's you used to go along with it.
Loose the anime renders. I too use anime renders, but only semi-realistic ones. Not ones that look like a little fairy princess running around.

Also photoshop does not suck, its just made for people who want to broaden they're graphics from signatures to animation and higher levels of graphics like layouts and such. I also recommend you start learning in it. Trust me on this one.

GIMP is good. Photoshop is great. Its all based on personal preference. I have used GIMP, I have learnt its features, I've learnt to use it, but honestly I think PS is a far better tool. One thing you have to consider as well is that the new Photoshops are now designed to not only be powerful stand-alone but also powerful in conjunction with many of the other tools in the Creative Suite.

Anime is not bad. Some of the best tags have anime stocks and renders.

This thread is just showing off how much people have yet to realise about making tags.

Borders aren't always necessary. Borders are meant to close off the sig/tag. Of the piece has an enclosed concept then it doesn't need a border. If a sig/tag has "flow" or maybe some effects and things that continue to the edges than a border is a good idea. But most of all it just comes down to whether or not it looks good.

Now for the actual piece. I say its ok. Definately not worth getting cocky over. I know many GIMP users who make absolutely stunning pieces, eg. +gh.euantor.
It is too bright, not enough light and shade going on. The BG is nice. I just dont like the render that much. It may have been ok originally but the brightness has killed it.
