Nope, google it. Apparently some malware that was set to go off at midnight (local machine time). Already encrypted most of my shit except movies and shows.

Just the fact that it did such a shit job encrypting shit makes me think there's an easy way out though. Like it encrypted .jpg's but not .JPG's...

They have no reason not to, there is no way out, it's ransomware (google it). If you're OK with losing your shit then don't pay.

That's an older type. Although it encrypts more file types, it also leaves previous file restores and such unchanged. This version just nukes all previous windows and file back ups.

If you're implying it is an older type and no safe mode etc, someone did leave this in the comments:

In Windows 8, there is no F8 to get into safe mode so goto the charms bar and click "Settings" and then click "Power" and then hold down the Shift key and click "Restart" and then let go of the Shift key, and then once the screen "Choose an option" comes up, click "Troubleshoot" click "Advanced Options" click "Start up Settings" click "Restart" and once the screen "Start up Settings" and tap the 4 key.
