Xbox error

I get an error when starting up an old xbox but it only comes up when i have the disk drive in any ideas of how. To fix it without buying new harddrive?

Well i think that it may be a bad sata cable running to the back of the disk drive

I don't know if a disk drive issue (or the cable to/from it) would cause start up problems.

If you haven't voided the warranty then don't yet, but if your xbox has already been opened then try tightening some screws and make sure all the cables are pushed in securely.

This could be caused by an old flash. Back in August 2011, Microsoft pushed one of the huge dashboard updates which reflashed/updated the firmware on xbox consoles. If you didn't restore your stock firmware before updating, it corrupted the firmware. From what I've read, it's a pain in the ass to recover; basically impossible for most LiteOns, BenQ, and Hitachi.

As said in above posts, it may simply be bad cables. I've had that happen to me before.

The xbox was never modified in any way and i tried using different sata cord the laser turns on and jumps around but then right after the 360 logo comes onto the screen it gives me the error ill try buying a new disk drive for it or somthing.

Most disc drives (especially from the old models, i.e. 2005-07) will burn out eventually, usually happens to Arcades and Pro's: those without HDD's.
Ordering a new drive will probably suffice, you just need to be sure you can still extract the key from the old drive onto the new as to match the console itself.

And how do i find and extract the key. On the label?
