do you have an antivirus program ? this could be the problem, turn it off and try again. Maybe somethings wrong with the firewall too.

maybe this is the problem..
the real d3dx29.dll has been replaced..
try reinstalling crossfire that may help

why dont you reinstall or get the new patch or try to turn off AV or sometimes the firewall is doing some troble
