I'm considering getting a fish tank and want to get some fish for it, however I have no idea what would be good fish to get. I'm hoping for colorful fish that can live together, without killing each other. So, Beta fish are not an option, as I don't want just one, but several different fish that can all live together and eat the same food. I'd also prefer the tank to be relatively smaller in size, same with the fish. Any ideas? Also I pretty much only have a Walmart to get them at, but can make a trip to Petco if it seems worth it for better fish. The more colorful and trippy, the better.

one of those fish that stick to the side of the tank and clean it, those are cool.
just get a bunch of beta fish and the last remaining one shall be the alpha, and all the amount of space he has will be his prize for surviving.

but tbh, @Predator's idea is better, get an octopus :P
The more colorful exotic fishes tend to be salt water ones which are difficult to take care of / maintain especially if you're new to fish tanks. I would suggest getting some of the more basic low maintenance ones like goldfish or angel fish so that you have a feel for them and get used to caring for them. There are a lot of different factors that you will not be aware of at the start of your fish tank journey and will probably end up killing a few of them before you get the hang of it. Colorful, trippy fish are going to be expensive (like $80-$200 expensive) and could end up costing you a pretty penny.
Never been to a walmart so I wouldn't be able to tell you if you can find these fish there but petco might have something to your liking. Your best bet would be to go there and ask them in person.
^ Sucker fish if you're looking for the name
Going to make cleaning your tank a lot easier, recommend getting a few
Good luck
