    So I'm Quitting my Job...

I have been thinking about it for several weeks, and just lately decided I should do it this week. I was having misgivings about it, but today confirmed what I thought initially. It was the worse day I've had in a long time. Not that I'm quitting because I had a bad day, but I think it's just a little encouragement to go through with what I have been planning for some time.

    Why am I quitting?

Quite simply... because this isn't where I want to be "Fast-food" that is. I know what ur thinking "well tough-shit" that's all ur gonna get, but I have decided I don't want to work just for the money, though I would if I had to. I'd much rather take next to no wage and work in a job that I can see myself having a future in. And since I get next to no wage already, this was an easy decision. The fact of the matter is everyday I spend working in an industry I don't want to be in is wasted. I've worked at this restaurant for 6 months, and it is busy "ALWAYS".

I wanted to work initially mainly just for the work experience, and I feel I have that, and have proven I'm willing to work. I could understand if I wanted a career in the retaurant industry, but I don't, so frankly it's time to move on, and start to build my portfolio or what have u in a direction I actly want to be in 10 years down the line. So meh, that's all there is to it. I'm going to write out my 2-week notice, and go through with it. I don't need the money yet, and when I do I'll get another job, but I don't think I want to stay in this city, in this state, and definitely not this industry. So I quit. =/

TL;DR read it again, there's definitely something related to code in it

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This is, I repeat, the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

On the flip-side- you know my background/story and how long i've been deving and i'm sick & tired of my main dev job too (though it pays the mortgage etc - and yes it's .NET haha).

If you need the money, the first law of employment is:
Don't quit your current job if you've not been accepted by the second job.

There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want, the other is getting it.

If you wake up at a different time in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

I kinda agree that if you don't really need the money. And you are are not doing what you want for your future, then yea, look for something that you feel comfortable with while you are "young".

@B1ackAnge1 Will do, to tired to think properly today, though I worked a little on it yesterday, I was just worn out, today. Sometimes it's crazy. They expect us to to deal with such a high volume of customers and yet they cut back everyone's hours to lower costs.

Sorry for ur sister, but I'm not just up and quitting. I'm doing this the right way. 2-week notice, then quitting, and I still get 2 weeks of checks after my last week because it's offset like that. And I don't need the money.

@Brinuz: Damn it's hard to kid around with u. You take me too seriously. Gawd just put it back. Just stripped all the humor out of it, and made me seem like a jerk. Like I would have ever posted that if I didn't want to. ,

Wait wait, hold up a sec. I thought you were just in your fast-food job 'cos you were still at school. That's what most kids back in highschool did for money; worked in the nearest mickey d's. Just hit the freelance sites hard til you start getting good at more 'real world' coding projects (sounds like BA has got you set on the right path for that), build up a contact list and you'll be set in no time. I only have about 2-3 direct contacts (one of which is my aunty...lol) but you can get a lot of work via them if not directly from them. For instance my Aunty does graphic design for a crust and repeatedly gets requests to do site designs and graphics, though she has never actually learned HTML or anything. She used to turn them down, now she just send all of those jobs to me .

With your coding skillz you should have no trouble getting some coding shit together (well, I assume you were looking at heading in the coding direction...as that was the only reason I could think of why you would post this in the CL )
