I ain't hatin' on you ;S
That is right.
Starting November 18 2010 i started teh japanese self study From then i have learned over 2100 Kanji(More than a typical highschool graduate), have gone through just over 1000 sentences.
Sentence method > learning vocab separately. Learn multiple words per sentence and learn context and usage
I can easily understand ~40% of a Random cartoon, so this will be somewhat easy yet quite an experience. (Through doing, i learn "oops, so that was format")
When summer starts I will no Longer use An English version of Windows. Windows 7 Japanese, Here i come!

Well I haven't gone to the extremes of replacing my OS with one I can't read / use, but 90% of my music collection is Japanese (not j-pop exclusive), and I know a bit of Japanese from my ex-anime obsessiveness (which I no longer have the time to keep up).
Did you take any outside classes for it?
congratulations dude...
I still struggling with english XD

100% self taught. From learning All Jouyou Kanji(92% retention), studying over 1000 sentences.
I believe classes are Bad, for multiple reasons, one including people witth terrible accents going like
"wah tah shee wa ga koo sei deh sooo"
also you only learn the formal way of speech. Sorry to say but nobody speaks formally in games,animes and even normal speaking on the street unless they are like a senior.
A famous example ajatt says is "So you can ask for directions, but will you understand the answer?" implying that classes focus more on speaking than just listening. listening.
One example is people just say the verb without any tence, cuz it is implied.
another thing is formal and casual things are something impossible to know they are the same if you didn't already know before
~になった
~になりました。
Another thing that separates me from other learners in classes is that they learn more speaking than actual kanji. 4 years might learn them 1k Kanji- 5 months got me to learn over 2k kanji, using an ingenious method to retain them. At times i learned 50 a day and remembered them all.
最後迄頑張るだろ。 Me
VS
最後までがんばるだろ。Class learner
Hell, i even made an Anki deck which show their hiragana forms, and their less used kanji forms(which makes foreigners in the land of J look even more pro.)
examples
くらい・ぐらい=位
の=乃
ほど=程
きり=切
And some more
The way that i learn to speak informal/casual And even rude is i get sentences from any source i can find Whether it is a 2chan forum post, video game, manga, etc, i will know there will be minimal polite speech, all casual and slang
Sorry for the long ass post i got carried away

くい=位・ぐらのい
=乃きら
ほり=ど切=程
For you too
I'm sorry, this message is a little late: why is this in the coding section? when you're clearly talking about Japanese or Chinese
