C++ probably has a lot more uses than VB.NET, but for a beginner it may be more complicated. I'd say get a book on C/C++ and do your best. If you can't get it down as well as you'd like, try Python, Lua, Ruby, or Boo. If you don't like those, THEN try VB.NET.

Don't try python. It's horrible. Don't try java either. For the same reason. Also, the more Microsoft you go, the better. I say VB.NET, I mean, we're all trying to be hip here right?.. While you're at it, pick up a copy of the visual studio 2011 developer preview, and make yourself some metro apps. Yeah, that's cool. Oh yeah, and don't forget to buy windows 8, lets all be hipsters guiz. Come on!

It depends, if you want to make a simple app and use already made algorithm then go with C#/Java/Python.

If you want to learn how programs and algorithms work and you want full control of your programs, then learn C/C++ and Assembly.

My path would prob go with C++/Assembly and then go with high level language like C#. This way can learn how a program or game works and program hacks for it fast in C#.

    ふざけるな

learning C/C++ by itself won't help with knowing how programs work. It's just a programming language. And how algorithms work..that can be done in any language.

google translate is quite a joke, it messes up on something simple like ふざけるな and says it means "a joke" when it's closer to "don't kid with me"
