Frequency does matter a shitload, but you can't necessarily classify them better by their frequency. Frequency is the range of sounds they can output. What makes it so hard when choosing between headphones is their sound, because frequency doesn't make up for the entirety of its quality. As Iverson said.

The reason why so many people hate on Beats is because 1. they're expensive and 2. they can be muddy as fuck. The reason they get muddy is because (from what I've read) they produce a fake bass. Basically an EQ within the headphones.

I've listened to music with Beats at Best Buy. Sure, they sound nice, but I like my Skullcandy 50/50 earphones better. Also, my cousin used to work at Compusa and he said that when he worked there, people brought their Beats back for a refund more than any other headphones/earphones he's done a return for.
