Your router has a MAC address, along with any of your other network connections. It's "more serious" because unlike your IP address, your MAC address does not naturally "change". However, it's very easy to get around with a MAC spoofer or by using my preferred method of packet editing.

Modem's have one too. Pretty much any network connection does, even hamachi, a VPN or your VirtualBox Network. They're all bypassed the same way.
