An engineer with no experience and a 4-year college degree will probably make around $50,000 for the first few years. On top of that, doctors often work very long hours and night shifts, while engineers usually work 40 hrs/wk.

So I think the better question these days is, "Why do Wall Street bankers make so much more than doctors and engineers?"
