Because retards like you bitch and whine about any sort of change and refuse to accept that something may be better if you get used to it.
That means less income, so they're forced to bring it back - it's the opposite of advancement.

If people like you took three seconds with windows 8.1 and actually tried to use it, you'd realize that the start menu is WORTHLESS.

First of all the hotkeys Win+X, Win+E, and Win+R are your friends.
Second, no matter where you are you can hit the windows keys and just type something that you want and it will open - the search functionality is 10x + faster than Windows 7's and that's not an exaggeration.
Third, even if you're not a big fan of the Metro Start screen - you're never forced to use it, and like myself and many others, you may find that it's a really good place to store shortcuts that you dont use every five minutes, but are nice to have because they're at your instant disposal when you hit the windows key.
Forth, Windows 8 is inherently faster, has feature support (they cut that off for win7 already) and supports DirextX 12 which is what most games will run in the future.

I almost feel bad for Microsoft because no-one is willing to accept any change that IS fully superior to the previous OS.
