It just depends on what you're doing.
Go to any animation studio, music, etc. Mac is industry-standard. The components are built to last.

Using a Mac for gaming? Stupid, obviously. Using it for rendering? Good.

The components are made to last?

The components found in a $2,000 MacBook Pro can be found in a Windows laptop for half of the price.

Price has nothing to do with the fact that if you're in the graphic design industry, Mac is the standard.

At least 95% of the people in the graphic design space use a mac, and the other 5% that are using a Windows PC most likely have OS X installed on the PC. I agree that using a Mac for gaming purposes is without a doubt a dumb thing to do. But for certain scenarios, a Mac is much more preferred, and for good reason too.

But even for rendering and graphics you could easily use a windows and a windows computer would render faster than a mac due to being able to purchase better components than mac products.

I'd buy a new cpu but cares. Before GTA V comes out, I will buy GTX 970 and double dip it that's all I need.

    Neat and contained system settings.
    - Incredibly debatable. OSX in general is very lacklustre in terms of GUI accessible system settings. There's a lot to be done through Terminal but that is no longer neat and contained.

No need for additional security software.
    - Well that is incredibly misleading. Sentiments like that is why OSX malware is gaining more and more traction. Every time there is a widespread attack Mac apologists are very quit to say "well technically it isn't a virus". Well no, cancer isn't a virus either but once you have it, it's gonna fuck you up. There is a reason why business' that partially run on Mac ecosystems invest thousands into enterprise protection systems when the average Mac user continues through the internet with blissful ignorance. The inbuilt XProtect system has no zero day protection and is easily bypassed.

    - Since when was bloatware a good thing? I thought we were trying to get away from that.

Linux is the animation industry standard. Macs are only used as intermediaries between the studio and executive production. Mac's are being phased out wherever possible in the actual production pipeline (whether it being used by an artist or as a renderer), their specs are too shit tier to bother with.

Why are you even talking about the macbook pro? I'm talking just the regular iMac here.
But let's see here, a brand new top of the line iMac costs $2,750. Comes with they comp (obviously), 27" monitor, OS, keyboard, and mouse. I think headphones too, but let's bundle the last 3 to about $50.
A 27" monitor running at 5k -- wait, I can't find any monitors that run at 5k besides this $2000 Dell.
The processor is an i7-4790K, so $350.
    8GB ram, $60.
The GFX card is comparable to a 7870, which is $350 again.
    A decent 1TB HDD is $55.
Windows OS is, well, let's assume you use Linux.

And there we are. $2865 for a Mac equivalent.

I never liked Macs for animation anyway -- only reason I defended them because they were industry-standard.
    Still better for music though.
man i'm just fuckin around you guys are taking this topic way too seriously
