i just found this post from some dude in the z8 crossfire forum....
i faced EXACTLY the same problematic behavior of CF on my 8 PC's...
each one has a different OS and no this is not caused by malware or something like that...

last time when i played CF i got the message "CROSSFIRE MFC APP IS TRYING TO ACT AS SERVER" form my firewall...
i decided to DENY cf acting as a server but i can play of course...
why in gods name does cf want to act as server?!

also i noticed that whwn my IE is in offline mode CF wants to connect to internet... i deny but i can still play...

what is that all?! r u gonna get u guys to spy on ur users?
thats the only valid explaination i can provide cause it works even if i deny....

pls explain otherwise ppl will think in a bad way of these suspicious behavior...

When you launch CrossFire from your desktop it USES AN INTERNET EXPLORER IFRAME.

No wonder why it wants to connect? It's using IE to retrieve content from their site.


As for CrossFire acting like a server, you must be mistaken.

As for 8 different OS's, that's impossible.

CrossFire only supports XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

and INTERNET EXPLORER IFRAME is NOT used on my PC cause i start directly w/ patcher_cf.exe... if u know this way to start the game...
