Upcoming build

I'm planning on a new build within the next month, its tons better then my current build.

Current build

Case: Rosewill redbone
Mobo: MSI FM2-A75MA
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 750k OC to 4.0
GPU: R7 260X
RAM: 2X 4GB sticks (don't even remember the brand, I think one is team and the other is GEIL)
PSU: Sentey Extreme 750W (fucking op PSU for this build)
Storage: 500GB WD blue, 120GB Crucial M500 SSD

Upcoming build:
Case: Rosewill THOR V2
Mobo: Asus Z97-E LGA 1150
CPU: I7 4790K
GPU: GTX 970 STRIX (might get a 980 instead)
RAM: 2X 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X DDR3 1600
PSU: EVGA Supernova 850
Storage: 500GB WD Black, 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD

I pretty much got everything figured out, any suggestions?

Quick tip, if you were going to actually upgrade that 970 to a 980, don't get a reference card. I have a reference GTX 980 right now, and it is acting weird and producing VERY low frame rates in some of the games that I play, and they aren't that graphically intensive either. Just warning you in case you do go for that upgrade.

Yeah, I like the reference card for the lighting thats literally it. My friend has one and it doesn't seem to dissipate heat very well. If I get a 980 I'm probably going to go for the asus strix with 2 big ass fans.

The only thing I can recommend is getting higher frequency RAM sticks. Go for 1886 or 2133 if you can afford to and if your Mobo supports it.

I'd go with a larger HDD. You can pick up a WD Blue or Seagate Barracuda 1 TB for under $50 in most cases. The 4790k is going to be overkill on gaming, unless you're looking to do other tasks as well. If I were in your position and using it strictly for gaming, I'd drop down to the 4690k i5 and invest in a nice GTX 980 card. The whole 970 thing is ruffling people's feathers right now with the .5 VRAM issue and Nvidia lying to people about it.

I'm fine with it being overkill haha. I wan't the best possible performance I can get. The 980 is like $200 more then the 970, I'm not sure if its even worth the upgrade. FPS gains in games isn't too much, around 10-15FPS. And, the 3.5GB VRAM issue is not that big of a deal, considering most games won't use that much VRAM.

What kind of resolution are you playing on? A 980 is terrible value for gaming at 1080P or even 1440P when compared to the 970.

1080p. I'm most likely going to go with the 970, I don't really see the justification in spending $200 extra.

If hes mostly doing gaming then a smaller HDD wont be a problem
