I previously used camtasia but I want to know if there are newer or better ones out there.

I use bandicam, best free recording program ever. However when you record stuff, it sticks it logo on top of the video, which is extremely annoying.
I use shadowplay for recording and sony vegas for editing.

@Eternity Open Broadcaster Software also works for recording 
Fraps and Sony Vegas.
OBS or Mirillis Action! are my personal favourites, but I rather OBS personally.

Is this even a fucking question? Record the video with fraps, edit it with Adobe After Effect or Sony Vegas if it low quality editing. Adobe after effects is dope though, I love it.
I'd suggest Action and Sony Vegas Pro, that's the best combo imo
I'm using Dxtory to record my games with, and editing well, Adobe Premiere for games, and Adobe After Effects for music promotion ^_^
