Wanting to make a pserver
So I made a post like this about 5-6 months ago before I had a job (delete or lock it). But now that i'm not a poor fuck I want to make a 24/7 vps server. One of the things I would need to know is what is the biggest thing that doesn't make it lag. I don't know what rotmg runs mainly off, ram, processor, etc. As well as what would be the best source
i can help add my skype hiama_gaming (mutant pickle should show up)

if u can code, best thing would be to make your own source based off C++

or if u are $$$$$ than just hire someone to make it for you, but not in MPGH, cause MPGH doesn't allow that anymore

why would you waste time making your own source with C++? Might aswell make your own fucking game if your going to do that...

RotMG has that vibe that is addicting like weed.

+C# is not good for games, so if u want ur pserver to be good af b8r learn C++

could you please stop spreading misinformation? the efficiency of the netcode doesn't really matter in small-scale servers(as long as it's not as autistic as doomed realms where 16gb doesn't even cut it for a few ppl), the files being reversable absolutely don't matter as a server and if you ever plan on writing one from scratch, in c++, it's purely a passion project as there is literally no gain in it, you'd make a thousand times more working a bit above min wage during that time.

oh i just heard it some a reliable source, i guess they were wrong

they said something like C++ is b8r than C# or something

C# is better for making games than C++. You should get your facts correct before using them :/

it's not if we won't factor in time and assume the person coding is equally proficient in both, it's just c# isn't automatically shit just because there is a better option.

If you want to go that deep in theory, nearly any programming language will be equal in performance making a game, it always depend on the quality of your code, and how advanced you are willing to go. You can make a game in C++, sure. You can also make one in C# And you can easily make the one better than the other. There are really no limits for what you can make and how advanced you will make it. But as you might have figured out, I was reffering to this case where Demon expected a new member to just go and make a source from scratch in C++.

i said "if he can code" / know

erm let me clear up some misconceptions

C++ is a faster language than C# simply because of its nature of interacting with lower level code. With that being said, for most people it's not really that much faster than .NET unless you are some C++ guru that can pull off tons of unmanaged optimization hacks in your code while retaining your structure. C++ is also the primary programming language for interacting with GL and DirectX, as graphics programming and GPU queries are best left at an unmanaged state. C++ is crossplatform (CROSS platform, not multiplatform) and will run just about on anything that you could call a "computer".

With that being said, for most people, .NET is far faster to develop, and is just generally easier to work with. Productivity isn't something this community has a surplus of, and if you want to get any project done, I suggest giving yourself whatever incentive/motivation you need to get it DONE, rather than staring at the figurative wall of code you have to do with C++ "just so it can be marginally faster".

The real backbone of a server's performance is how all of its different components function together with the least friction (responsible software engineering). Yes, there are game-breaking issues with the timekeeping logic, and sending data over to clients. But after those issues, what will really determine if the server will run between 200 clients to 20,000 clients is how the components scale and interact.

You're not really concerned with whether the server can run 200 to 20K clients. You just want to have it run maybe 50ish people. All you really need is to fix some logicTicker shit, fix various things with sending updates and crafting the update packet, and you should be set for all pserver ambitions.

If you want I could join and help some with coding. Dscord JacksonAiken32#2399
Update, I have the server up 24/7 now just need to make a new nexus, fix some shit, add more dungeons (attempt to idk how), and maybe have some people test it. Let me know if you are good at map making.
