Processor question
I'm going to be building a computer soon, and the motherboard I chose is an 1151 socket motherboard that supports DDR4 ram, but the CPU I've been looking at is an 8th generation i5 with an 1151 socket, will it work with the 7th generation motherboard, or is the chipset wrong?

nope that wont work

youll need a z370 motherboard for your 8th gen processor

you calling other people retard, yet you tell him stuff that is just correct which it clearly isnt at the current point

6th and 7th gen processors work with z170/z270 boards but z370 boards are only compatible with 8th gen intel processors

8th generations CPUs need 8th generation mobos aka the z370 chipset to be capable.

if youre a person new to pc parts i would actually rather recommend using pcpart picker when trying to list the parts you wanna buy

google is obv better for researching those parts, but for finding parts that match and wont have any issues with compatability pcpart picker is imo better

While you're technically correct, he also had a point, he's just wrong in this instance.

Socket matters more than chipset because there's more than one chipset per socket (usually) that works.

except that in the case of 8th gen intel cpus they only work with z370 boards (unless youre really really adventurous and want to flash your bios, and mess with tons of microcode editing then you might get a 8000series running on other boards, pretty hypothetical since theres only the 8100 tested yet)
