Yes, I think people who did that AC hack soon got banned. Some people who didn't abuse it and sell back immediately, still have their accounts(I THINK).

Don't do anything that Violates the Rules of a game, when you don't want to risk your account.
It doesn't matter if someone else guarantees your safety. As long as it's breaking the rules, there's always a risk.
