Passcode vs Facial Recognition vs Fingerprint
Which one are you using mainly?/What phone?
I find facial recognition to be slow at the moment so I'm opting for a quick fingerprint.
Until facial recognition software can make up for bad lighting and random angles, fingerprint will remain the better option. Phone manufacturers are trying to implement fingerprint scanners into their screens because the facial recognition software just isn't up to par yet.

And it really comes down to specific use cases. Sometimes you want to unlock your phone while it's on the desk - for some devices, the scanner is on the back so you'll have to pick it up anyways. Others are on the front and that makes it quite easy. For facial recognition, you would have to stand awkwardly above your desk.

From my own experience, I loved the fingerprint scanner on my Pixel OG. It was perfectly placed on the back that my finger would land on it instantly. My work has provided me an iPhone, so the thumb print is on the front. From my point of view, my iPhone is just slightly faster at recognizing my finger and doing it at more random angles than my Pixel could.

FR on my Poco F1 is blazing fast and works in the complete dark too. Problem is that if someone gets my phone they can just point it towards my face and booom unlocked. So I kinda find it unsecure.
finger print is extremely easy to use but have been getting use to facial recognition. Both have their ups and down but still better then having to manually type in my passcode.

i just tested it on my XS in the darkness

the thing is that the screen lights up your face enough so it can scan your face
had no issues and didnt take longer than 1second pressing included
Exactly as niggo said, my iphone works in pitch black because the light from the off screen illuminates it enough.

As for security of FR, just use a weird face for unlocking your phone, then if someone were to steal it and try it on your face it wouldn't work.

The possibilities...
Problem is newer Iphones don't have a fingerprint scanner so I'm fucked.
Still own an iPhone 7+, but it really annoys me when I have to manually enter my passcode just bc there's a little bit of sweat on my finger
I still prefer finger print

the facial recognition doesn't need to see my ugly face
iphone x's facial recognition is a lot faster than what anyone initially expected at launch tbh, but it doesn't justify the amount of different angles you have to try to get it to work every now and then. i still think fingerprints are the best option atm
I liked the fingerprint authentication, but while doing some work with tools, my fingers tend to get damaged on the surface just enough to be unrecognized by the device. So I mix fingerprint/PW.
