Acer Notebook Computers are known for the exceptional battery life, You must have bought a dodgy one.

At the Moment I am using an Acer Aspire 5738Z;
2.1 GHz Dual Core Processor,
64mb GFX Card (Accelerated to 748mb)
2GB DDR2 RAM
320GB HDD
15.6" HD LCD Widescreen (16:9)

This laptop does the Job for me!

PRO'S & CON'S of an Apple Computer

PRO'S: Fast, Reliable, No Viruses, Battery Life Exceptional,
CON'S: No Games, Software Compatibility is S***, Repairs are Expensive

What is the Price Range you are looking to invest in, because that way I can Help you find an appropriate laptop for Your Requirements. My Advice would be to stick with Acer but just get an advanced model.
UHHMM,
Xion, I use an iMac for my gaming, and a Macbook for all my school and media needs.

Lets say this:
Mac OS X doesn't have DirectX, .NET framework, or anything like that, and its programming language is very different from Windows. BUT, compared to a Windows computer, the Macbook is made to last YEARS (like 6-8 or more) while a Windows computer will last 2-3 years good, then turn to shit.

Now, don't forget, you can BOOTCAMP your Mac. That's partitioning the drive to allow an install of Windows. Which is what I did for my PC gaming. Works perfectly. Runs windows natively.
