Dedicated 6 hours straight to minecraft, finally got down the basics, made a huge underground mansion filled with everything. I go outside , kill a pig and the game freezes and crashes. No save.

I know how you feel. I got a shit-ton of diamond, then glitched through the map (it auto-saved when I died).
WOW... that sucks... im sorry but i am laughing my ass off but i do know how it feels... when u finally get something worthwhile and the whole damn thing crashes... and it wasnt saved
All you have to do to save is press ESC. 
Lol. I save every 30min, so should u.
