umm well they are apperentally a super-powerful group that pretty much controls like everything. a lot of people are rummered to be with them. im pretty sure the masons were related to them somehow. so yea they aprentally do a lot of shit
Illuminati or the enlightened offshoot 'secret' society of the 'freethinkers' created in 1776 I believe. Disbanded several years later, reasons I cannot recall. I''m sure you can find the actual history about them on Google.
Like the Freemasons and other 'secret' societies they are used all the time for conspiracy theories. Linking hearsay and sometimes completely false 'evidence' for some sort of New world order crap.
No relation to free masons, the American revolution or the French revolution for that matter.

National treasue was a movie. Just like The da vinci code. It had some historical references, but then makes its own story out of it.
there have been many "groups" of illiumaniti and many groups that are the "parents" of them, some claim that they derive outta the templars, some outta others...also...a current idea about them is that they are the overall mothergroup of the "new world order" and not necesarily an actual group but a coalition of the leaders of other secret societies. ill read up in my conspiracy books and get a better definition; i havent read them in forever.
but honestly a better conspiracy to worry about is the mafia. because theyre real even though people dont view it as a conspiracy; a conspiracy is defined as: a secret agreement between two or more people to perform an unlawful act
a plot to carry out some harmful or illegal act (especially a political plot)
a group of conspirators banded together to achieve some harmful or illegal purpose
so, focus upon the "real" conspiracies, while the others are based on a seed of evidence, theyre still really unlikely.
