Stop Vindictus From Updating

Quite recently I was playing Vindictus and I realized that I was still playing the winter (1.16) version. I was not sure if the new update had already been released so I downloaded the newest version onto another computer, and it was not winter. I then tried both computers at the same time. Both accounts could see each other but one was in winter and one wasn't. Today I may have discovered how this happened.

I was bored and decided to edit some of the files in Vindictus, some of those files were enginetools.txt, and currentinfo.txt. It could be one or both of these that are stopping me from getting the update. It will be hard to do any testing until the new update comes out. Below is what my enginetools.txt and currentinfo.txt look like.

Engine tools is the exact same.

It be kinda weird if you could patch backwards.

I was looking on my computer and found a downloader for Vindictus 1.09 and actually got it to install. Although it wouldn't run because it can't connect to the server. I attempted to move the server.dll file from the newer Vindictus to it but it just crashed. I would be willing to give out the 1.09 downloader for people to figure it out but the mpgh rules say no external links and it too big to attatch to a post. If anyone has any ideas about how to share the installer without getting me banned fell free to post them.

EDIT: I have also found the 1.16 installer for vindictus and it is working.

lol iam pretty sure if u are not on the newst patch u wont be able to host boats u would onli be able to roam in the town and nto enter a channel well thats what happened last time when nexon forgot to put the newest patch up

I actually played vindictus on 1.16 for about a week after the 1.17 update came out and I can still play it at this moment. I can also launch boats and others can join. I may make a video later to prove it.

That's weird, normally if you leave the game client on, like at login screen, and something patches, and you try to join boats, you can't connect. o_O

I think whats happening to me is caused by the currentinfo.txt file, it's telling the server that the client is already patched

EDIT: I have confirmed this. I installed Vindictus 1.16 onto another computer and replaced the currentinfo.txt file and the game ran. Insteresting, very interesting.

so basically if we keep that txt and replace it after patch when ever it comes, we can keep using console cause game will think it is already patched?

ie if the new patch is supposed to stop console from working but we trick the game into thinking we got updated, we can use console still.

It is possible but we can't know for sure until the next update comes out.

EDIT: If a new update does come out it will most likely have something very important in it like a new level cap or new maps or something, so if you don't get the new client, you won't get the level cap but you could still keep using the console. So you may never get past lvl. 44.

Hahaa, that's so very strange.

If only Nexon had an event that gave special items, you can wait like a few months, then go back in time, still complete those events and get rare items and sell them.

Negative, the game updates the engine each time, which then prevents you from connecting to the login server if the internal version doesn't match up.

As of Vindictus Update 1.18, this has been patched until further notice. When you try to run the game you can get to the login screen but when you log in you get disconnected. I will attempt to fix this but don't expect any quick fixes.

EDIT: I have found that this still works it was just that I forgot to put a file in. You can still play Vindictus 1.16 even after the 1.18 update.

Well there must be something else going on here. This is a list of everything I did to get my results:
1: Found the VindictusSetupV116.exe file on my computer to install the game.
2: Disconnected internet so the installer couldn't verify version with the server.
3: Installed Vindictus.
4: Reconnected internet.
5: Replaced the currentinfo.txt file with my modded version.
6: Ran game and it worked. I could change channels, host boats, everything you can do with the newest client.
(I have tried this technique with Vindictus 1.09 and it didn't work, so this may be patched after the next update.)
