How to Engrave Words On A Gun (Photoshop - 10 Step)
Tools Required:
-RezInject (Optional)
-Photoshop CS4 or CS5
-RezExtract
-DTXConvert

Step 1) Use RezExtract and DTX Convert to select the gun you want to engrave.

Step 2) Open the gun in Photoshop

Step 3) Use Google Images to search "[Gun Name] Combat Arms". This will give you a hint of what parts on the DTX file go where on the gun.

Step 4) Find a suitable area for the engraving. Find this area in the DTX File.

Step 5) Make a new layer, and create a text box.

Step 6) Enter the engraving, make it something quick or short. Put it in Strong and Bold.

Recommended Font: Arial
Recommended Color: White
Recommeneded Font Type: Sans Serif ONLY

Step 7) Right click on the layer and hit "Blending Options":

-Add a Black Inner-Shadow
-75% Opacity
-30 Degree Angle
-Distance: 5
-Choke: 0
-Size: 5

Step 8) Add a "Rolling Slope - Descending" contour using "Blending Options"

Step 9) Set the Blending Mode to "Soft Light"

Step 10) The engraving is now complete. Just add it to your file or inject it into your .rez file and play the game.

Dos:
-Edit A Gun Where the Engraving Is Very Visable (G36E Works Well)
-Experiment By Yourself With This Tut
-Engrave Your Name On Personal Mods
-Engrave Your MPGH Username on Released Mods
-Engrave on Ammo Magazine

Don'ts:
-Engrave A Knife, The M9 In The Pictures was just for tutorial. Melee Weps are almost ALWAYS held Vertically.
-Engrave A Scope, It's Just Not Right
-Engrave On Unseen Parts of Guns

Top 10 Best Guns To Engrave:
10. SCAR-L: Has a smooth base, and is held somewhat in a good position.
9. Desert Eagle: Smooth, held at a good angle.
8. G36E: Easily noticable engraving, if in right spot.
7. R870: Smooth base, easy to see.
6. G23: Somewhat smooth base, easy to see.
5. SR25: Large engraving spaces, easy to see.
4. XM8: Easily seen engravings, with large space.
3. LAW: Very plain base, easy to see with very large space.

Nice tut, will try Though I suspect it works best on guns that are grey/black already, am i right? Or can this be done on green things like TRG-41, too?

Imma put my name on all of my guns xD

Black and Grey guns are best for this tutorial

In order to make a green engraving, use a light green instead of white when making the font.

Grey and Black works best with White Font.

I'd suggest a Light Green or Pale Yellow for your TRG-41 Mod.
Post some images so that people know what they're doing.

What he said. :/ I engrave differently, so it's barely noticeable that it's engraved. :/
Please include images (screenshots of each setting etc)?
screenshot or a video :/
Screeny would be nice, so people can see what it would turn out like.

Good tutorial none the less
Nice tuto I was trying to make it! amzing1
I'm currently making a video. Hang tight!

EDIT: Pictures added on 2/5/11
theres a hella easier way of doing this.
I don't do mine as deep, for guns that depth might be good, but on the knife, it looks like you could poke a hole through it.

I agree, the Knife was just as an example. It works best on Big Guns (MG, SR, AR)
Very nice tutorial. I was in doubt as to how to extract the .rez files and open them in PS.

What's with the lack of [thanks]? This aughto be stickied for modding references.
